It’s Cool To Give The Shirt Off Your Back

So a little birdie told me about this Montreal t-shirt company that sells shirts with designs by indie rock stars whom we wish were our friends. (Tell me, who wouldn’t love to be part of the scene? You know the broken, but social one.) 100% of the profits are donated to a charity of the musician’s choice. I like those odds.

I’m kind of feeling this shirt designed by The National. Simple, and makes a statement:

Yellow Bird Project even has a theme song that you can listen to while shopping for new threads. The song is called “A Field of Birds” by Swedish musician, The Tallest Man on Earth, and you can download it for free on their site too.

T-shirts, free music, and a good cause. What’s not to love?

School spirit

College kids, you don't know how good you've got it. You wear pajamas for the better part of the week, and in four years, learn to perfect the art of ramen slurping,. Sure, classes get in the way, but hey, it's not like you show up half the time.

I got college on the brain because White Rabbits AND The National are playing Cornell University on Saturday, August 25th. Cornellians, I plead with you, do not miss this concert. Otherwise, years down the road, you will look back and cry because your favorite band ate at your dining hall while you were doing something unimportant---like studying.

Same goes for you, Vassar! These Brooklyn bunnies will be in your area on September 5th.

Check here for more White Rabbits tour dates.

I rained out

I saw South Street Seaport from the train going down into Brooklyn Friday night. It was bit of a let down to not be able to see The National perform, but hey, shit comes up. No worries though--I heard it was a great show, and they are playing Terminal 5 on October 11th, so crossing fingers that I can be there.

Mistaken for Strangers

New York Noise is one of my favorite programs, and is an epitome of public television done right. The latest episode followed lead singer, Matt Berninger of Brooklyn band,The National as he and his mom and dad took a tour of the United Nations. Little known facts about Berninger- he used to date Boutros Boutros-Ghali's speechwriter. And the video for Mistaken for Strangers? This was filmed in his apartment. I'm digging this song but it makes me a little sad. You get mistaken for strangers by your own friends...

Mister, my brainwaves are connected to the stereo too.

A friend of mine who has never heard of the National before, says they remind her a bit of Interpol. I don't think they sound much like Interpol at all. The sound isn't quite as dark. Or maybe she is just onto my not so subconscious obsession with Interpol as of late. You be the judge.

The National will play South Street Seaport (free!) on August 17th @ 6pm. See you there~
